The New Mini NES

A palm sized Nintendo NES will be released in November with 30 classic games preloaded.  What fun!
Even I, the woman with the non-functioning Mitts As Hands when it comes to game controllers could use the NES controller.

I and my then small gaming pal spent many hours with the games offered in this package ( mostly with me providing encouragement, because I panicked at boss fights and in encounters with Bees).

Lord of the Rings Online For Just A Short While Longer?

After the good news of updates to the game this week in LOTRO, the bad news follows that an unspecified number of staff have been laid off at Turbine:

http://massivelyop.com/2016/07/07/rumor-more-layoffs-for-turbine/

Even more dire, Warner Brothers told Massivelyop:

“Turbine is transitioning into a free-to-play, mobile development studio, and as a result we are eliminating some positions. The Lord of the Rings Online and Dungeons and Dragons online games will continue to operate as they do now. Re-focusing and reducing the studio size was a difficult decision for the company, and we are grateful to all of the Turbine staff for their considerable contributions.”

I've seen plenty of speculation that the licensing for LOTRO wouldn't be renewed next year, which you could only imagine would lead to a shutdown of the game  (rumored for years and hasn't happened so ignore, ignore), but to turn the studio and its assets into some mindless mobile game?  How sad, how awful a fate for such a beautifully designed world.  There is nothing like it and never will be again.

I am compelled to try to think of any good coming of it, and if some of Turbine's staff get to keep their livelihoods, then more power to those folks.  Honestly, though, it's like asking DaVinci to paint the rocks in your garden.  With a toothpick.

Couldn't someone buy Turbine away from Warner Brothers?  Save Middle Earth!

Having The Best Time In Elder Scrolls Online

Bought the game during the Steam sale, and I'm pleased and surprised that I am liking the game so much.

Very differently than I thought in the Beta, the game feels like the world of Elder Scrolls, and it's so immersive I keep wanting to hit the Save Game button.

I'm having trouble picking locks, grr, and there are so many treasure chests lying around.  I think if there weren't a timer adding pressure to the process, I'd do better.

I like the megaserver idea, there are always lots of people around.

Somehow wedging in this along with LOTRO, WOW, and a little each of Rift and The Secret World ( where I finally emerged from the basement).

A happier gaming week.

Write To Me At www.ustinkasagamer.com

It's been a bad week in games.  I did get my Paladin to level 100, but otherwise?

Little things, perhaps, but cumulatively, I'm feeling puny.

I inadvertently uninstalled Everquest 2.   Oh well, my hard drive was full, so I reinstalled on my laptop.  It looks and plays great on it, unlike most things.

Submerged, a game I read about in January, was on sale on Steam.  I can't get it to go past the loading screen.  High hopes.

LA Noire, from a previous Steam sale requires you to sign up for a Social Club to play, and there was some statement about your gameplay appearing on their website. What?

My Galaxies Architect was loading up a factory run and put a crafting tool in the ingredients hopper, which was then "too far away" to get back out.

My very best Wow character went in her first beta dungeon and got booted. Truly no idea why, a word was never spoken by anyone in the whole dungeon.  Cone of shame.  Still sulking.

I asked about getting my LOTRO Loremaster in the guild my lower level character was in. No response. BO?

Still stuck in Beregost (?) in Baldur's Gate and every single person there tells me to go south to help with the mining problem.  Ogres!!!

Luckily I'm about the most resilient person ever, and I'm going to regroup and move onward to glory.  A new week beckons.
